To Protect GEJ! Annkio Briggs call on Niger Delta & Ndi-Igbo to break away!

NIGER DELTA OCCUPY NIGER DELTA RESOURCES

email: NDoccupyNDResources@yahoo.com

COMMUNIQUE

After a crucial general meeting held on Friday January 13, 2012 and attended by Chiefs, elders, women, youths and stakeholders of the Niger Delta in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, we are constrained to make our position known on recent and ongoing developments in our country.

We have noted the unfolding issues regarding the removal of subsidy on fuel and the rambunctious attitude of the North towards President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Fellow Nigerians, let us not forget that in the promise of keeping this country under the banner of One Nigeria, the Niger Delta people have usurped our goodwill and resources through the following:

•Neglect of our people politically and economically

•Sacrifice of our resources to Nigeria

•The long term and ongoing destruction of our environment

•The killings of our people

•The attacks and destruction of and on our communities

•The persistent opposition to the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan presidency, which has translated into high level violence as well as the ongoing killing of innocent Nigerians, particularly of Igbo origin among others.

We the long suffering, neglected, abused, and marginalized people of the Niger Delta find it very necessary at this point, after much consultation and analysis, to call our people to come back home.

For our survival, home is where we will feel safe and be better and more prepared to defend ourselves in the face of the level of neglect and abandonment of our region and our people after more than 50 years of providing for the country or entrapment designed by Lord Lugard for the benefits of others and to the detriment of our region, people and future.

We hereby call on all Niger Delta citizens and all oil-producing states and people to call the Federal Government and the Oil Companies in their enclave that the Oil and Gas and all other natural resources found or to be found in our land, creeks, water, mangroves and swamps belong to the peoples of the Niger Delta and other oil producing states.

Therefore, we consider the ongoing devastation of our land and waters as a serious violation of our Human Rights and Environment.

We also call on the Federal Government and the oil producing companies to take note of our resolve to resist the ongoing exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in our region. The activities of the Joint Venture between the Federal Government and the International Oil Companies are a violation of our birthright and economic rights.

We have also resolved to declare and call for
NIGER DELTANS OCCUPY NIGER DELTA RESOURCES (NDONDR).

We hereby peacefully insist on taking our resources back by all and any legal means available to us, nationally and internationally. It is our absolute right to reclaim our land, water, mangroves, swamps and creeks from the strange hands that have long held them hostage.

This clarion call is to all Niger Delta people who believe that the natural resources on their land is given to them by God Almighty.

Therefore, we have as of this date, 15th of January 2012, started the occupation of all our states and resources and call on all Niger Delta people to converge in protest to occupy our land, water, swamps, mangroves and creeks to protect our God-given resources.

After watching the events in reminiscence of the past since Independence to date (1960-2012), we are convinced that without this action we will have nothing for our future, our children and their children’s future.

This step is necessary as it is the only one left for the Niger Delta people otherwise we are condemning our nationalities and people to self-imposed slavery and destruction.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan or Niger Delta people will not be slaves to Nigeria that has survived on injustice, mismanagement, corruption and massive fraud.

We the Ijaw and Niger Delta people are not prepared to be blackmailed and terrorized into a corner because of our God-given oil and gas.

We support the withdrawal of fuel subsidy even though as usual in the creeks and swamps we end up paying the highest price. We are opposed to and will continue to fight against mismanagement and corruption in Nigeria.

But having watched the goings on against the person of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, an Ijaw and Niger Delta son, over the past one week in the name of "PROTEST AGAINST SUBSIDY", it has become crystal clear to our people that we are neither wanted or needed as equals in this country that is made by Lord Lugard. We therefore have had enough of the distasteful, shameful and offensive open ridicule of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the world and Nigeria media, instigated openly by self-proclaimed leaders, elders, intellectuals and men of different faith.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Niger Delta and all the resources found in the Niger Delta belong to Niger Delta people. All resources found in any other region of Nigeria belong to the people of such region.

We call on all our Niger Delta peoples, for the sake of our future, to look to our nearest neighbours, the Igbos, for immediate and strong alliance to enable the Niger Delta nations and the Igbo nation to face the obvious change that will come to Nigeria, in strength, justice, brotherhood and truth.

IF JONATHAN, A NIGER DELTA SON IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO GOVERN NIGERIA, THE OIL IN HIS NIGER DELTA IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR NIGERIA.

IF THE NIGER DELTA PEOPLE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE PART OF GOOD GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA, THEN OUR OIL AND GAS OF THE NIGER DELTA PEOPLE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR NIGERIA.

Signed

Annkio Briggs
PRESIDENT, AGAPE BIRTHRIGHTS and

CONVENER, NIGER DELTA OCCUPY NIGER DELTA RESOURCES

  3. This is utter nonsense and is not productive. I come from the South-South too and all I am interested in is good governance, a robuse fight against corruption and development ACROSS Nigeria. I do not see any of the protesters saying they are anti-South South or anti-GEJ because he comes from there. Are these not the same people who voted for him? Please let us avoid divisive statements and focus on the issue, which is making our government ACCOUNTABLE TO NIGERIANS, whether headed by someone from North, South, East or West.

  4. Where are all these militants when we occupied Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Abeokuta, and Abuja to ensure that Jonathan became the Ag. President. Tunde Bakare led the struggle under the banner of “save Nigeria” group when Jonathan people could not raise their voice against the cabals. It is on record that some of his Ijaw people never wanted him as president of Nigeria. When Obasanjo was president, yorubas were his main critics; Wole Soyinka, Gani Fawehinmi, Femi Falana, and Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Saharareporters. Bola Tinubu even donated a house for Dokubo Asari while in prison. Today, Asari is now a sectional activist.
Nelson Mandela said it all. There are “stomach” militants and confused activists. “History punishes those who use fraud to suppress the yearning and the aspirations of the people.”

  5. Don't mind this useless noise maker, is he more Ijaw than David West? If you ask around, I'm sure you will find out that he has never donated one chair to any school in Ijawland, he's just a bought and paid for circus clown. I am a Deltan and I support everything that #OccupyNigeria# stands for.

    1. Briggs clearly knows what she is saying. if she as u say defending her ancestors why is she trying to get the british workers in the niger delta eg shell etc to stop stealing oil. her father in Nigerian from the niger delta, the kalabari kingdom her grand mother is igbo. and her mother is british. she grew up in the niger delta went to primary and secondary school in nigeria moved back to england to futher her university and in 1998 after having four kids moved them back to Niger delta to live and grow up like she did. but meeting such nonsence behaviour in the niger delta , people dying, killing eachother for oil of her own land her own people dying she moved her family back to the united kingdom and decided to stay back at this point her last child was 5. she decided to fight for people of her place. and u all are insulting a woman of wisdom, a woman God sent to defend her own peopl. she has put her life on the line and her childrens lives in order to save people of the Niger delta. who she is not related to. and u all sit at ur computers insulting her. this is a brave woman. have u heard of another woman in nigeia who challenged Odili,Amaechi, and all the criminals who still the oil which is to be used to benefit the country and sell it to other nations legally and illegally. have you? this is a woman who will defend her own people and not be affraid. have u even heard of a man who did it? marshal harry (RIP) WAS killed trying to fight the same reason and this woman is alive today to fight for you, do u also know she is fighting for justice in PH for the killings of those boys in ALLU4? THIS IS A WOMAN WHO WILLL DO ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD TO SAVE HER PEOPLE. SO SHUT UP! AND RESPECT HER. U dont have to call her names in order to make your point. one day this woman will be the hope Nigeria has. RESPECT HER.. WHat she has said here if u do not approve it there are better ways to say it than to insult a woman. remember you all have mothers. can ur mother stand infront of a governor and call him a criminal and he wont do anything? can your mother fight for a man to be the president of Nigeria? can your mother put her life on the line for people she doesnt know? can your mother sacrifice seeing her children everyday just to please another family or help another family? Agape Birth rights is an NGO. AS ANNKIO has said before "i will never ask for a contract from the government" annkio briggs is one of the only people Nigeria has left to say WE HAVE HOPE. shut up and respect this Woman.

  16. I am sad to see letters of this nature from our south-south brethren.
Our brother is in power good!! We need him to use this opportunity to place the country in the path of good gorvernance. He will not be there for ever and if he does not put the right things on ground now that he has the opportunity, we will continue to suffer.
I can tell you "Save Nigeria" group is not against GEJ nor his govt. What they want, which is what I want and all Nigerians should want is good gorvernance with accountability for all monies recieved and spent.
Pls let us from South-South stop talking on ethnic line and ask our brother (son) to put in place solid structures for good gorvernance.

  18. Mrs Briggs, your folly amuses me. It is because of women like you that certain countries shun women having a voice. You drip of sheer sentiments. Oh, so when you and your people divide, you will refine your own oil and drink it? If your son, GEJ, is acting out a script given him by the cabal, we should not speak?

  20. Hahahahahahahha! I laugh. So now the ijaws need the support of the igbos. Mrs briggs, how many chairs or books or writing materials have u donated to the niger delta schools. Can u withstand the tide of what you are agitating for? Because i know when Nigeria splits Niger Delta will never remain in unity because there will be communial clash for the oil like what is obtainable in the niger delta communities over land disputes. Nigeria is a blessed country but in the North and south. The Northerners can survive and be the strongest economy with Agriculture. What are we fighting for when there is trade autaucky existing between us. Madam i think its best u come out and say u want an appointment from the presidency than this ethno centric jingoism.

Angio Briggs, Stop deceiving the Niger Delta people while enriching your pocket... they will syrely protest against you when they find out how much you and other cohorts having been receiving in their names, their families and for community development which there is nothing to show for.

Tribalism will not take us any where at al, good leadership is all we cry out for, this is not a fight between the ethnic groups its a fight to save Nigeria from the elite, the cabal and monstrous leaders that have raped and ravaged our common wealth to fulfill their insatiable diabolic quest for money and power.
I do not advocate the splitting of Nigeria rather I will clamor for regional government as was in practice before the intrusion of the military in 1966. There is utmost strength in our diversity.

Better dont waste your energy on fruitless adventures. What happens to those that have taken wives from the other tribes? Are our children going to be labelled as 'another Osu'? Where will they belong assuming their father is warri and their mum is yoruba? Nigeria is too interwoven to break off. Think of the ramifications of your actions before you put ur points out there. You've obviously not thought through this enough.

  60. This is wonderful. Oya now wetin una dey wait for? If Nigeria is divided Jonathan will not have a say in Niger Delta cos he is a minority. Infact the big wigs will finish him. He rather stays in the north where he has a lot of real estate here in Abuja. So let them divide the country and see which region will develop faster. The Niger delta will be the last region to move forward because of Militancy and favouratism.

  63. To start with we as a nation do things collectively for the betterment and the future of our beloved country and that has been the way our forefathers taught us. Before oil was discovered in Nigeria our nation did better those days. The cocoa plantations, the ground nut pyramids and the palm kernel were so important and vital to the nation that the government put a picture of the ground nut pyramid on the N1 note and the palm kernel on the N5 note back then, and even though the pyramids and the plantations do not exist anymore it was so important that we still have them on the N200 note. And why is everything reduced to whether you are from the north or south, Hausa,Yoruba,Igbo,Ijaw,Kanuri etc? As far as I'm concerned all these are excuses used when good structures are not in place. Nigeria will survive without the niger delta oil without a doubt. You forget your history my former comrade! And i say former because you have chosen your path and any sensible person from the niger delta will not answer to your unworthy call. And we also as northerners are not prepared to be blackmailed by you. Unfortunately your greed, ambition and selfishness has made your vision for our great nation blurred. Let me quote you "in the world and Nigeria media, and instigated openly by leaders, elders, intellectuals and men of different faith". So are you trying to say by this statement that all these organisations and respectful people are wrong and Goodluck Jonathan is right? In my opinion that would be considered ignorance in its highest order. Your son is in power good!! Use this opportunity to make the Niger Delta a better place, not a break away region that will eventually face the might of the Nigerian Army. You should be old enough to know your history. You do not deserve any respect from any nigerian period.

  67. WHO IS ANN KIO BRIGGS???

The European struggle to establish forts and trading posts on the West African coast from about the mid-1600s to the mid-1700s was part of the wider competition for trade and empire in the Atlantic. The British, like other newcomers to the slave trade, found they could compete with the Dutch in West Africa only by forming national trading companies. The first such effective English enterprise was the Company of the Royal Adventurers, chartered in 1660 and succeeded in 1672 by the Royal African Company. Only a monopoly company could afford to build and maintain the forts considered essential to hold stocks of slaves and trade goods. In the early eighteenth century, Britain and France destroyed the Dutch hold on West African trade; and by the end of the French Revolution and the subsequent Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815), Britain had become the dominant commercial power in West Africa.
The slave trade was one of the major causes of the devastating internecine strife in southern Nigeria during the three centuries to the mid-1800s, when actually abolition occurred. In the nineteenth century, Britain was interested primarily in opening markets for its manufactured goods in West Africa and expanding commerce in palm oil. Securing the oil and ivory trade required that Britain usurp the power of coastal chiefs in what became Nigeria.
Formal "protection" and--eventually--colonization of Nigeria resulted not only from the desire to safeguard Britain's expanding trade interests in the Nigerian hinterland, but also from an interest in forestalling formal claims by other colonial powers, such as France and Germany. By 1850 British trading interests were concentrating in Lagos and the Niger River delta. British administration in Nigeria formally began in 1861, when Lagos became a crown colony, a step taken in response to factors such as the now-illegal activities of slave traders, the disruption of trade by the Yoruba civil wars, and fears that the French would take over Lagos. Through a series of steps designed to facilitate trade, by 1906 present-day Nigeria was under British control.

    History
The British/African Briggs family began when a member of the British Briggs family went to West Africa from England. Descendant Chief Young Briggs after discovering the town of Abonnema discovered Palm kernel and through this began the manufacturing of Palm oil and Palm kernel oil and over time becoming one of West Africa's biggest manufacturers and exporters of this palm oil and palm kernel oil and by so immersing the family wealth.
    The British Briggs'
A Grandson of Chief Young Briggs, Kio Abel Briggs was later sent to Britain where he studied and worked as a marine engineer. It was here that he met one of his spouses and had a child. He continued to live and work in both West Africa and Britain.
    Descendants
Annie-Marie Briggs (1952-) (Also known as Ann Kio Briggs) Is a prominent human rights activist, she mainly deals with the human rights of citizens from her ancestors home town Niger Delta. She is also the founder and director of Agape Birthrights a NGO.

And people in the niger delta really think this woman is helping them?? in my opinion she is still doing the bidding of her british ancestors just like her grand father and her father did. She is sent and directed by the same people that directed her grandfather to come to the niger delta to enslave our men and women and steal our resources and enrich himself while doing that.. the family has been an opportunistic one from the day they set their foot on nigerian soil. please open your eyes and see things for what they truly are. being naive at this point in time does not help nigerias unity. WE MUST EXPOSE THEM FOR WHO THEY TRULY ARE AND EXPOSE THEIR TRUE MOTIVES.

  68. Now we realise that she is been sectional by protecting the interest of ND...cocoa was for the west, groundnut for the north and these where used for regional development.for how long would ND feed a nation that don't care how she feels...resource control I second

  69. While Briggs cannot be commended for her statement. The question still remains....how can Nigeria get our of the mess we are in???? I believe that there is strong autonomy of regions or states, Nigeria will continue to get worse.

There are people here that believe that the Oil in ND belongs to Nigeria, this is both true and not true. It is true because of the Land Use Act by Obasanjo but it is also not true by the fact that these resources are domiciled in the ND and laws that operate in the developed world like the US mandate that all minerals are the preserved right of those on whom land it is found.
Don't get me wrong, i'm for one Nigeria but we have to look at what model of governance we adopted at the time we prospered the most-true federalism. To those people who say oil in nothing, it's clear you haven't read how America and the industrialized world became an industrial nation in the late 1800s with the input of Mr Rockefeller of Standard Oil. Oil is one of the most profitable legitimate businesses in the world, in fact, many Americans have become billonaires and multimillonaires from oil found on their land. The Forbes billionaire list of 2011 shows that about 50% of billoniares in the US are Oil people and most live in Texas! Question: Who are the billonaires who have enriched themselves with oil money in Nigeria??? How many of them are NigerDeltans??? Do you know that a land owner in Texas with Oil on his land gets up to 30% of GROSS REVENUE???? Now this is the scenario where the land owner does not contribute nothing at all including money or technical expertise to the beneficiation of oil from his land, yet he gets 30%!!!!! Can a Nigerian go to Texas now and tell that fellow that he is lazy and that the oil in his land doesnt belong to him???? I would advice anybody to do that because Texans are trigger happy! However, Oil is not the only profitable business in the US, there are many more! So giving the right of minerals to a land owner doesn't impoverish the rest of the country, in fact it would make others sit up and look inward as to what they can do to be prosperous.
Nigerians, every part of this country has what it takes to have a stand alone economy.
First thing first, to promote true enterprise and the entrepreneurial spirit, the Land Use Act decree must be repealed and State autonomy instituted.
    God help this country!!!
